Society member new director for the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit
Professor Dario Alessi FRS, FRSE , has been appointed Director of the Medical Research Council’s (MRC) Protein Phosphorylation Unit at the University of Dundee. He will succeed the current Director, Sir Philip Cohen, in April 2012.

Natasha Ratcliffe, who designed the Biochemical Society Early Career Research Award medal, has been picked from nearly 30,000 entries in a Royal Mint public competition to design 50p coins commemorating the Olympics and Paralympics.

In the latest data released by ISI (2009 Journal Citation Reports © Thomson Reuters) the Biochemical Journal's Impact Factor has increased to 5.155.
